Here is the next addition to our curator program at Gluten Free Calgary! We believe this program is a great way to share different perspectives on being gluten-free in the vibrant city of Calgary, learn about new places to eat, and have fun doing it! Imagine how much we can build this community if we all get the chance to share.

If you live in Calgary, you’re familiar with our temperamental weather. We sometimes experience two or three seasons in a day! For me, this means the kind of food I want to eat at least somewhat depends on the weather. There are so many fabulous gluten free recipes out there for all of these times that I thought it would be great to share some of them and then pair them for you with an equally delicious wine – because wine makes all weather better.

I’d like to start off by saying how excited we are to be able to offer this amazing cookbook world wide! It has been a technical roller coaster but we’re THRILLED to give you the opportunity to create your own collection of recipes, hand picked and delivered via e-mail as your very own customized e-cookbook!

Sometimes a girl just needs a cupcake and last week, I was having one of those days. So I opened the door to my scarce pantry and reached way up top and pulled out the box of Compliments Chocolate Cake Mix that I had been meaning to try out and review. Today was the day!
There is definitely a lot of unique food when it comes to Stampede and it fascinates me. Unfortunately for those who have intolerances, allergies, or are not really wanting to indulge too much in all the deep fried delicacies, Stampede hasn’t had too many healthy options in the past. (The event will have some gluten-free options for us this year though – see the list below for details!)

Have you ever heard of Kathy Smart, North America’s Gluten-Free Expert? You may have heard her speak at any number of international events, possibly even at our local Gluten Free Expo this past spring. Kathy is an inspiring entrepreneur living gluten-free in Ottawa and traveling internationally to speak, connect and educate on the subject of nutrition and healthy living. And, she’s an absolute doll.

When I found out one of the responsibilities of the Voice of GFYYC was to live-tweet and blog about a gluten-free meal in Calgary, I gleefully informed my parents, since we’ve been having a good run of restaurants lately. This led to us settling on a birthday dinner for my mom at Ox and Angela.

Did you know that Celiac disease and food intolerances impact much more than what we are able to eat? Gluten can sneak it’s way into your child’s environment in more ways than just food. For young children who have Celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, art supply items such as play dough, finger paints, stickers, glue and face paints need to be gluten-free as well.

I just came back from such a relaxing foodie weekend in Whistler… Sampling away the days, enjoying some of the finest glutenfree cuisine! (And some wines, too!) Thought I would share some of my experiences with you all for when you next venture out that way.
