Have you ever heard of Kathy Smart, North America’s Gluten-Free Expert? You may have heard her speak at any number of international events, possibly even at our local Gluten Free Expo this past spring. Kathy is an inspiring entrepreneur living gluten-free in Ottawa and traveling internationally to speak, connect and educate on the subject of nutrition and healthy living. And, she’s an absolute doll.
It’s early in the morning and luckily my fridge is full of leftovers. I have to dash off to preschool very soon, and that means bellies need to be filled with delicious and nutritious grub. What is my go to gluten-free family favourite? Quesadillas!
If you are anything like me making breakfast is a daily chore. I dream of elaborate dinners and fabulous lunches, but breakfast (aside from my morning espresso) I dread. One method I use to combat this sad phenomenon is to make smoothies. I jam pack them with goodness and gulp them down knowing that they will sustain me until my next more enjoyable meal. This would also make a great mid-morning, mid-afternoon or any-time snack!

Hi friends, Tessa here. I’m on Day 14 of the 21 Day Sugar Detox… and feeling a lot better. My sugar cravings have gotten SO MUCH better, it’s amazing. All of a sudden club soda with lime is a treat to have with dinner (instead of wine) and carrots taste like candy! Oh and the one green apple I get a day… BEST.
Well, it’s been a week sugar free for me now! And I can’t simply report back that I’m feeling great. Sometimes I am. And in some ways I am not. But this is a detox, so there are symptoms that go along with this journey to feeling great.
Well I thought it was about time I tried one of the lovely recipes I have been hearing so much about from our friend Amber Romaniuk (if you haven’t checked out her guest blogs, make sure you do!). Amber recently released her first gluten, sugar and dairy-free cookbook and we were lucky enough to attend the book launch party at Self Connection Books last month.
Candycane bark that is. The perfect recipe to mix up after indulging in a few Rum Eggnog’s! But let’s be honest here, what during the Holiday season isn’t thrown together after a few wobbly pops (not around GFYYC headquarters, THAT’S for sure).
It’s Saturday. And it’s brunch o’clock here in downtown YYC. Kaley decided to craft the healthiest concoction she could come up with to nourish our bodies before we ventured out to Yoga Passage (www.yogapassage.ca) to participate in the 108 Sun Salutations Fundraiser this afternoon!
