Hi friends, Tessa here. I’m on Day 14 of the 21 Day Sugar Detox… and feeling a lot better. My sugar cravings have gotten SO MUCH better, it’s amazing. All of a sudden club soda with lime is a treat to have with dinner (instead of wine) and carrots taste like candy! Oh and the one green apple I get a day… BEST.
I’ve continued to try new recommended recipes and find I’m preparing about 90% of my food at home (which is completely unimaginable for most people that know me). Some recipes I try are awesome, some… not so much. LOL. The savoury meals are turning out fantastic and I’ve found some new favorites for sure (I think jalapeno bacon burgers are my new speciality, FYI). But when you’re looking to replicate a dessert or something sweet, it’s very difficult to do without that white stuff or a substitute for it (which the detox does not allow). Often times it just turns out tasty… well CRAPPY, for lack of a better term.
One recipe I did find that sort of satisfied those cravings for “sweet” and is also super duper easy and quick was the COCO-MONKEY SMOOTHIE! Takes about 5 minutes to do up in the morning and you can take it in a handy to go cup and sip on your commute to work! (Just be careful not to spill… nobody wants to be the girl in the meeting with the awkward brown stain on their pants that everyone stares at… wondering.)
1 cup almond milk (unsweetened if you’re sugar-free kiddies!)
1 green-tipped banana, frozen
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons almond meal (will publish a blog very soon about how to make your own version of this… or of course you can buy it)
pinch of ground cinnamon
small handful of ice (optional)
Blend ‘er up and off you go! Chocolate banana sensation!
I’ll bet we could even adapt this to be a protein smoothie fairly easily as well… for those who are on the fitness train. Get creative!
