GFYYC’s Gluten Free Caesar
If you didn’t already know, today is the First Annual National Caesar Day! Yes you heard right–that is now a thing! We know there’s no turning back after reading that sentence. So read on to find the recipe for GFYYC’s Gluten Free Caesar, and then get to your kitchen and get mixin’!
As you know the “Caesar” is Canada’s favorite drink, and drinking them is our favorite pastime (while watching hockey preferably!) so while this should definitely be enjoyed today, keep this recipe on hand for every time you have a Caesar craving!
2oz Iceberg Vodka (there are lots of Canadian GF vodkas out there that you can use including: Distillers Pride Vodka & 49th Parallel Vodka)
Dash of Siracha
Dash of Home Made Worchesteshire (*Recipe Below)
4oz Motts Clamato
Celery salt for rim
Wet the rim of the cocktail glass and gently roll in the celery salt
Fill glass with ice
Build cocktail in ice-filled glass
Top with Clamato
Garnish with celery stick, asparagus or even… BACON!
Home Made Worcestershire Sauce
*Unfortunately it appears that the most commonly found pre-made Worcestershire sauce is actually not gluten-free (in Canada, anyway), so below we have included a recipe for a homemade version that we found at Epicuious that is entirely gluten-free!
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons tamari soy sauce (this is just made with soy, no wheat)
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon molasses
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan and stir thoroughly
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly
Simmer 1 minute and then cool
Store in the refrigerator
Makes about 3/4 cup
Shake well before using
