I’m not even sure how I stumbled upon Bobby Reed’s but I’m sure glad I did. Finding new gluten free goodies is always exciting, especially when they’re a local business! Combine that with Bobby and Caroline – a couple of the coolest cats we’ve met – and you’ve got a recipe for greatness! But seriously – they’re WAY cooler than I ever thought of being. They play in a band together and make the BEST gluten free perogies I’ve ever tasted!
If you haven’t heard the Bobby Reed story:
“Bobby Reed’s mother Stephanie taught him many valuable things; to be a gentleman, to treat everyone with respect, always water African violets from the bottom and how to make an exceptional Perogy.
Caroline’s mother Doris taught her a thing or two as well; how to spot a gentleman, to raise an award winning rabbit and how to build something from
Brought together in friendship and through music, they formed Bobby Reed’s Exceptional Perogies with the shared mission: to make the snazziest, gluten free Perogy this side of the Rocky Mountains.
It is here in the foothills of Alberta where you can spot Bobby Reed grinning from under his signature pork pie hat, Caroline in her golden go-go boots, doing what they do best; making perfect Perogies!” – Caroline Connolly
Bobby and Caroline were nice enough to show us around their kitchen and take us through the perogy making process.
So let’s talk flavours – ‘cuz these aren’t your average perogies! For the unadventurous they’ve got your traditional perogy “The Cottage” featuring cottage cheese and potatoes. But if you really want to walk the line check out their other offerings:
Canadian Bacon Classic (CBC) – In the key of ‘eh’, liberal amounts of bacon, un peu de sirop d’erable (maple syrup) all with a polite serving of mashed potatoes.
Do the Mashed Potato (and Cheddar) – The hardest working perogy in the biz. This little ditty, headlining potato and cheddar cheese, will have your tastebuds dancing the latest craze!
Kansas City Hey Hey Hey – Smoked for a day using Bobby’s custom wood chip blend, then simmered for another in a lovely, locally produced BBQ sauce, well it’s: 1–2– 3–4–5–6–7–8–9!
On the Lamb – A modern marriage made in heaven of ground lamb, mint, rosemary, feta cheese and mashed potatoes. Opa!
Spanish Harlem – A sassy little number featuring spicy chorizo sausage, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, sundried tomatoes, fresh basil and oregano and asiago cheese.
CBC and Kansas City are also diary free for those with lactose concerns!
And can we just take a moment to appreciate the descriptions!?!?! I mean c’mon hahaha
If you’re a Goodie Bag subscriber you were treated to some freshly made gluten free perogies in the December bag! Easily our most successful bag yet! We still get messages about the perogies!!
If you haven’t tried Bobby Reed’s Exceptional Perogies yet, what’s stopping you? They are stocked all over the Calgary area and are spreading across Alberta! Check out their website to find a store near you!
