The Amber Approved Gluten-Free Pizza Crawl!

On Wednesday, the 28th, I got to be part of one of the most fun GF activities ever  – the Amber Approved Gluten-Free Pizza Crawl as part of #yycpizzaweek. #yycpizzaweek is a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels as well as an awesome opportunity to try some of the best restaurants in Calgary. img_2794

We started the evening at Bocce, where their Pizza Week offering was a pizza with garlic oil, rosemary ham, mozzarella, parmesan and watercress. On a light, thin GF crust, and with their homemade chili oil, this pizza was a real winner and a fantastic way to start the evening. At Bocce, we had a big family-style table, and it was great getting to know other members of the GF community in Calgary!

The surprise restaurant for the pizza crawl was one I would have never guessed – Ollia Macarons and Tea, for their sweet entry into this year’s pizza week. The tiny shop stayed open just for us, and we got to sample this marvel:

Yep, that’s right – that’s a dessert pizza on a chocolate macaron cookie base with apples, salted caramel buttercream, and macarons on top. They were kind enough to give each of us an extra slice to go, which was may or may not have been my breakfast this morning. I also may or may not be ordering myself another one before pizza week ends on Sunday.

Our third stop on the pizza crawl was Calgary pizza classic Una, where we snuggled up on the patio under the heaters and got to sample three of Una’s delights, including their pizza week entry the Cheeseburger Pizza. The overwhelming favourite at Una, though, had to be the 4-maggi – (from the Una website: provolone piccante, friulano, fior di latte mozzarella + pecorino romano, finished with truffle oil + local urban honey). We actually ordered another one just so everyone could have a taste. It’s THAT GOOD. (My photo is not).

We finished the night at Beer Revolution. The Beer Revolution entry for Pizza Week isn’t able to be made gluten-free, so the chef surprised us with three others that were gluten-free, and, on top of that, were incredible. My favourite was the Chicken Wing, and we also had the Wilbur and the Blazing Saddle. All three were huge hits at our table!

In my opinion, you can never, ever go wrong with chicken wings on a pizza.

Make sure to get out to these restaurants before Pizza Week ends on Sunday!
