We have an exciting new curator program launching at Gluten Free Calgary! We believe this program is a great way to share different perspectives on being gluten-free in the vibrant city of Calgary, learn about new places to eat, and have fun doing it! Imagine how much we can build this community if we all get the chance to share.
So my favorite day of the year is just around the corner (what can I say, green is totally my color). For those of us living gluten-free, St. Patrick’s Day can be a bit of a bummer being that generally speaking, we don’t get to partake in the “green beer” they serve up at most local pubs that turns everyone into stumbling leprechauns.
Doctors recommend that persons diagnosed with Celiac or gluten sensitivity practice complete avoidance of gluten. It is very difficult for you to be able to do this if you are not aware of the dangers of cross contamination. Little things like a knife in a drawer could be a source of stomach pain, or perhaps it’s the double dipped jar of peanut butter in the cupboard.
There seems to be a lot of gluten-free events going on right now, and we’re super excited about it! (Maybe we need some kind of gluten-free calendar, hey? Foreshadowing…) Take note of all this stuff, guys! We hope you can make it out to some of them–we’re going to try to as well!
So we decided it was time to take a weekend away from the cold YYC winter and head out towards the ocean where things were a little more mild and the air was a little more humid. And with the Gluten Free Expo in Vancouver this last weekend, we knew this was the most opportune time to go!
Well it’s Super Bowl weekend, and we all know what that means: a smorgasbord of munchies… that you probably can’t eat. One rule of thumb I like to stick to is always eat the plainest foods. Stick to vegetables. There is always a vegtable or fruit tray at a SuperBowl party.
If you’re participating along with half the population in what we like to call “New Years resolutions”, chances are you’ve just completed your 30 day program and hopefully you have completed it with flying colours! How amazing do you feel right now? Are your muscles more toned? Do your pants fit better? Or do you have so much energy you could just burst! All are common symptoms of eating healthy and working out

For someone who has always taken great care of my health, exercised regularly and practiced all the normal eating habits growing up, in 2009 something strange happened to my right eye, and so this journey began.
I was 26 years old and felt a sharp pain in my right eye; it was extremely light sensitive to the point of not being able to open along with a scratchy feeling. I went to the ophthalmologist and was told I had Iritis. Iritis? What is that? How did I get it?
Hi friends, Tessa here. I’m on Day 14 of the 21 Day Sugar Detox… and feeling a lot better. My sugar cravings have gotten SO MUCH better, it’s amazing. All of a sudden club soda with lime is a treat to have with dinner (instead of wine) and carrots taste like candy! Oh and the one green apple I get a day… BEST.
Well, it’s been a week sugar free for me now! And I can’t simply report back that I’m feeling great. Sometimes I am. And in some ways I am not. But this is a detox, so there are symptoms that go along with this journey to feeling great.
Many of us are feeling the effects from our holiday binge eating at all those gatherings with friends and family this past holiday season. The large holiday meals over load our digestive systems – causing many of us to feel sluggish, bloated and cranky. Juicing has always been my favourite way to give my body a reprive from the constant snacking I put it through.
