Well I thought it was about time I tried one of the lovely recipes I have been hearing so much about from our friend Amber Romaniuk (if you haven’t checked out her guest blogs, make sure you do!). Amber recently released her first gluten, sugar and dairy-free cookbook and we were lucky enough to attend the book launch party at Self Connection Books last month.
Firstly, I want you to really shed all of your fears and expectations with respect to cleansing and detoxing. When we have certain expectations in mind and and they don’t occur exactly as planned, we tend to believe that the results were poor. An open mind is required when detoxing because it’s benefits vary greatly and some are more subtle than others.
We all have heard (or tell ourselves year after year) the oh-so-famous New Years resolution to ‘get fit’ and ‘eat healthy’. As so many of us often spend December at holiday events that include an abundance of delicious and homemade treats (yes Grandma, you are 100% to blame for my button popping off after turkey dinner), January is the month to kickstart the new year with a new outlook on health. We want to create a community where everyone is encouraged to eat healthy and be fit in the YYC!
Candycane bark that is. The perfect recipe to mix up after indulging in a few Rum Eggnog’s! But let’s be honest here, what during the Holiday season isn’t thrown together after a few wobbly pops (not around GFYYC headquarters, THAT’S for sure).
Still not finished your Christmas shopping? Don’t worry! Here is your chance to win a tasting package from Sgambaro’s: Signatue Seafood Inc. Enter the draw to win a tasting package that includes samples of the gluten free Cold Smoked Salmon (Lox), Marinated Salmon (Gravlex) and the three mustard dill sauce which goes well on any roasted meat or with veggies as a dip. Also included in this gift basket will be a few of Sgambaro’s favorite recipes that can be made with gluten free soya sauce!
It’s Saturday. And it’s brunch o’clock here in downtown YYC. Kaley decided to craft the healthiest concoction she could come up with to nourish our bodies before we ventured out to Yoga Passage (www.yogapassage.ca) to participate in the 108 Sun Salutations Fundraiser this afternoon! (If you have no plans at 1:08 PM today, COME JOIN US!)
Our new fave hidden gem of the month: Located on the corner of 10th Ave and 12th Street southwest, we stumbled upon it, well, rather snowshoe-d into it, on what Nenshi declared as a “City Wide Snowday”. We had always been meaning to check this place out as it is literally right around the corner from us, and with both of our cars being buried under snowdrifts, today was a prime opportunity to shuffle over!
I’m going to segway into this blog from the last one on emotional eating and talk about what really inspired me to write this book. I am so delighted to be launching “Amber Approved: Gluten, Dairy & Sugar Free Recipes to Nourish This Life” on December 10 here in Calgary at Self Connection Books in Bowness.
Holiday season is just around the corner, and we all know this time of year is littered with events! There are work events, events with friends and family and as it turns out, there are a number of gluten-free events upcoming as well! So we thought we’d take a moment to highlight some of the ones we’ve heard about, so they don’t get lost in the mix and never make it into your calendars, that seem to be filling up oh so rapidly these days. We know that this season can leave us all a little tight on time and on cash, but a lot of these events are very cost conscious and should be absolute gems you might not want to miss! So have a peruse through, and see what tickles your fancy….
So as a woman, I can definitely say I’ve dealt with emotional eating for about 20 years of my life, 16 of them unconsciously and the latter 4, consciously. When I realized I was using food to deal with life and emotions, it threw me into a vicious cycle of wanting to end it, while completely resisting it as well. I was so driven and fired up to try to figure out why I was repeatedly eating my frustration, anger, sadness, stress and even my happiness, that it completely turned my world upside-down.
